Onstar adds social media

Posted by – September 16, 2010

Have you been itching to get to facebook or twitter while you are driving? Don’t want to use the phone right, too dangerous.

Well OnStar announced another plan to increase services on General Motors vehicles. You guessed it, customers will not be able to connect to Facebook and Twitter without taking their hands off the wheel.

In addition, they are testing a way to let customers text message hands free. All part of a safety campaign that will allow customers to use use these social media tools while driving.

Some other cool features for subscribers include the ability to unlock their cars, remotely start them, and turn on the lights using their phones.

The 2011 GM vehicles will be equipped with the hardware but no timeline on when to expect them.

2010 or 2011 Chevrolet?

Posted by – August 16, 2010

Well its that time of year. New models begin rolling into the dealer while we still have brand new current year models on the lot.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox

A question that always seems to come up, should I buy the new 2011 model or go for the savings on the 2010 model? Great question, so let me see if I can give a good answer.

New models generally get you the latest in all forms of safety, convenience features, updates to engines and the latest technology that usually improves fuel mileage and performance. However, with getting the most up to date vehicle they almost always cost more and discounts are less likely.

However, buying a current year vehicle will usually get you the most savings as incentives are in place to help get you the most for your money. Current year vehicles will depreciate quicker but unless you plan on trading it in within two years that doesn’t matter much. Current year vehicles usually are the most reliable as issues of any type have been ironed out.

So the answer is, IT DEPENDS. Yeah I know that was the easy way out. Basically you have to weigh the factors that are important to you when deciding to buy a new versus current year vehicle. I suggest two basic key factors, the latest and greatest versus saving you the most money up front.

One thing to remember, if you come to New Smyrna Chevrolet or New Smyrna Chrysler Jeep Dodge I’ll personally make sure you get the right vehicle and best possible price.

Car Financing

Posted by – February 3, 2010

Many people ask;

“Is it better to finance through a bank or the dealership?”

What I always tell folks is that generally financing through the dealership is much better than a bank. Banks normally give the dealerships better rates due to the shear volume of the contracts they sign. Since dealerships represent millions of dollars in opportunities they get the better rates versus a single individual as one loan.

In addition, dealerships have many financing options so they have the ability to make the banks compete for the business. In the end, it means better rates for you and a lower payment.

New Smyrna Chevrolet is “Green” with Nitrogen

Posted by – January 26, 2010

Most people don’t know that filling your vehicle tires with Nitrogen is a safe and better alternative to just regular air. Nitrogen in tires has become a popular replacement for standard air. Nitrogen is the most abundant gas around us at about 78% nitrogen with oxygen at 21% and then the rest that include small amounts of other gasses that I’m not even sure how to pronounce.

I’ll mention the environmental reasons in just a moment but lets just consider general maintenance first. Did you know that using regular air to fill your tires decreases the life of the tire, has the potential to degrade the rim safety and impacts the balance of your tires with alignment? Well it does. Now lets consider some other advantages. When considering tire inflation with nitrogen you can see improvements in a vehicle’s handling, fuel efficiency and tire life through better tire pressure retention, improved fuel economy and cooler running tire temperatures.

Now lets consider the environmental impact. This topic is much debated but it comes down to common sense. The general argument that Nitrogen is better for the environment is simple. Most people do not check their air regularly enough to optimize fuel efficiency. With Nitrogen the pressure retention is so much better that you don’t have to feel guilty about forgetting to check the pressure every time you fill up. Better fuel efficiency is better for the environment.

If you are one of those folks that carry around a pressure gauge in your pocket then I guess this doesn’t apply :) .

Check out the Discover Channel video Jay Leno did on the topic. No matter what side of the fence you are on in the environmental advantages argument there are clear reasons why Nitrogen is a better alternative to your standard air machines.
